For our finale episode, we have our very special host, Uchenna Agbu.
Director and writer Uchenna Agbu, the creator, producer, and host of the show, sat down to talk honestly about art, leadership, and what it means to build a life in theatre. The conversation was open and grounded, moving easily between big-picture ideas and lived experience. She shared her path to Broadway, the skills required to succeed in commercial theatre, and how artists can build careers aligned with their values without risking burnout.
With extensive experience in the theater industry, both on stage and behind the scenes, Uchenna’s journey began as a Stage Manager at Rutgers University’s Cabaret Theatre. With years of hard work, she became the Artistic Director of Cabaret Theatre and later became the recipient of the Cody Renard Richard Scholarship Program. She was an artistic/literary intern at Premiere Stages, and served as a management fellow for the 2024 Broadway revival of Thornton Wilder’s "Our Town.” Alongside her artistic work, Uchenna is a Human Resources Consultant with K+K Reset, dedicated to assisting Broadway productions and tours in fostering better, more inclusive working environments. Her journey reminds us that artists can make meaningful work while uplifting those around us.
What We Learned (Or Were Reminded Of)
⭐️ Advocate for yourself, and when you can, advocate for others.
⭐️ Put yourself out there. You never know what will happen.
⭐️ It’s okay to be picky.
⭐️ Make meaningful connections.
⭐️ If you don’t believe in yourself, you cannot expect others to believe in you.
What stuck with us was Uchenna’s steady and intentional approach to her choices. She does not perceive success as a relentless pursuit; rather, as a journey artists build with integrity and intention. Uchenna provided an important reminder: we should move at our own pace while continuing to produce work that leaves an impact.
“You can learn anything if you put your mind to it. You just have to believe in yourself.”
— Uchenna Agbu
